Are micro enterprise projects create work opportunities for people with very little or no education and some of the people who participate in these programs are illiterate or lack documentation such as birth certificates and ID cards. These issues make it very difficult to find employment and they are easily exploited by employers. Our projects include raising chickens, growing fruits, vegetables and flowers, building furniture, learning to cook and sewing. The focus is upon giving people skills that will enable them to earn money and the training is very informal, not requiring a high level of literacy or numeracy. Participants who have suffered severe physical, sexual and emotional abuse also find healing and a hope for the future as they begin to achieve success and are able to contribute positively to the community they live in with their new skills.
